My motto and approach in education and providing adequate services to clients stems from the following quote by Alexander Den Heijer, “when a flower doesn’t bloom you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower”. I strongly believe that cultivating a healthy environment through our actions and intentional support, promotes positive changes and growth.

I have my master’s degree in Special Education, with a focus on Autism Spectrum Disorders from the University of St. Thomas, and a bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences from the University of Minnesota.

I have a total of 7+ years of teaching experience both with behavior and academic training. I worked in settings ranging from preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, and transition age, both general and special education. In years as an educator, I have had the opportunity to put into fruition successful rapport building with students with high behavioral and academic needs and their families. I contributed to bridging the language barriers that some families in the Somali community face in the education system by utilizing my language skills in Somali.

Currently, I am the Special Education lead and client provider here at JtC AUSM.

I am passionate about helping children with disabilities and their families navigate their educational needs at school, community, or home environment. I am excited and look forward to working with our clients and their families at JtC AUSM.
